Carol Clover
Carol Clover is an American professor of film studies and she is also an author. Herbest known theory is the idea that killers in horror tend to have either issues from childhood or are sexually disturbed. This idea comes from the theory behind how killers got to their current state of mind or how the killer may have been abused at some stage in their lives and how they carry that with them and take it out on people at a latter stage. She also had the idea that 'Female killers are gender confused', an example of this is the mother in Friday the 13th. We didn't go on to use this theory as it would be hard to present it in a short trailer.
Carol Clover's theory on the location of horror films, contrasts to that of Wes Craven. She believed that horror films should take place in terrible places, for example a decaying house or graveyard, because as well as having a scary appearance, they are accompanied with horrible histories. She also liked the idea of having walls to block the victim in, making it easier for the killer to kill/devour the vulnerable victim. An example of this would be Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We are not going to use this idea as we wish to set our movie in a normal place to show that this could happen to anyone.
