Sound Analysis

We have chosen this trailer because this uses different tunes which are both non-diegetic sounds. At the beginning of the trailer the music started to sound happy as if nothing is going to happen. This music is called non-parallel where the music sounds peaceful but something something terrible is about to happen. Until it shows two characters trying to get their car working with tensed parallel music in it which gives the impression that they are trapped or in danger. Then it shows another non-parallel when it shows the release date and afterwards until it shows the title 'THE PURGE 2', where the music sounds somewhat peaceful and harmonious while the video shows catastrophe and scary looking people.
We have chosen this trailer because this uses different non-diegetic tunes that is scary or not. At the beginning of the trailer, it shows parallel music which sounds cheery and heartwarming when the family are on a trip to their grandmas. Then the non-diegetic music stopped and there was silence and scratching noises. Then it has non-diegetic parallel music when it shows 'from the writer and director of...' and when the kids are getting suspicious about their grandparents. The tune gives off an eerie sweet tune because even though it hasn't shown anything scary yet, it shows that their grandparents are acting even more weird. Then the tune starts to get more unsettling and less sweet when the grandma starts to laugh which gives the impression that the house is indeed haunted and the family are in danger. |

We have chosen this trailer because it uses scary and non-scary non-diegetic music. At the beginning of the trailer this would be a non-diegetic parallel theme because it has a sad but emotional tune while it shows people doing their normal lives which gives the impression that people were doing their daily lives until something bad is going to happen. Until when it showed people using violence, the music began to get more vicious and intense which shows that the characters aren't safe. Then it shows the tune starting to sound harmonious and less intense which would be a non-parallel theme because even though it tune sounds peaceful the scenes and shots show violence and panic.
