Title Analysis
The Purge 2 Anarchy
When analysing The Purge 2 Anarchy 2014 we noticed there were several titles that appear in specific sequences in order to make the trailer dramatic. each title usually appears when the background music reaches crescendos. This helps build tension within the trailer to draw the audience in and draw attention to the titles. As well as this we also noticed that there was a specific pattern that said titles appeared in. The build up and intervals between each title was generally a two - 5 second gap, this would allow the view to make sense of the message it was portraying. We believed it split the titles up, with the select amount of writing in order to build suspense and keep the audience interested. We thought that the fact a broken American flag was used as a background to the film title, suggested that America was truly broken or in despair.
The Purge
There is a similar sequence of events with The Purge 2014, it uses almost identical title lengths to its sequel which helps create an identical sense of unease as the trailer continues. Both film titles are at the end of the trailer which suggests the makers wanted it to be memorable and the last thing the view sees. Both the Purge movies are set in a near future America, where for one night each year, all crime is legal. This brings into account many new scary factors, as normal citizens could possibly become killers ; and watch, as the whole country tries to survive the night. At the end of the trailer, a dirty flag is used, this may symbolise that there is worst to come, but the situation is already bad.
Sinister 2
Sinister 2 2015 is all about a small family that watches a film and becomes the property of a single individual who goes on a murderous rampage. It has a similar take to the title sequences, only they have opposite colours to both The Purge 2014 and The Purge 2 Anarchy 2014. The white background creates a fake feeling of safety and purist ideals, this creates a false sense of security. The cracks which are situated in the background of each title suggest that something is seriously wrong or deteriorating. It follows the same patterns as the movies above as it leaves a few seconds between each title and a longer pause, to build suspense, before the final title.
Ouija
Ouija 2014 is all about a group of teens that enter a house in order to contact their dead friend with a Ouija board. The first 3 titles appear with a red background, which suggest there is something majorly wrong or evil and that there will be blood present somewhere. As the titles continue there is a step present in the background which is red, this firstly symbolises that the house they are in is haunted or dangerous; and secondly infers that death could possibly follow. This helps build suspense up until the final title sequence, the red stained background is a running theme throughout the trailer and helps symbolise blood and danger. The final title shows a reflection of a Ouija board, this creates a great affect as the word Ouija floats above a blood stained board, and infers that death follows anyone who uses it.
