This is the trailer for the movie Sinister. For the shots, they have used many long shots of the house to allow the audience to see the details and the background. They also used long shots for an old family video, because so the viewers could then be able to see a ghost figure in the background.
For the mise-en-scene the family are wearing common clothes to show the audience that they are a normal innocent family. They are also in a normal looking house, this is to show that there would still be paranormal activity even if the setting doesn't look haunted. For sound they used an eerie non-diegetic sound, because it would make the trailer even more scarier than it shows. For lighting they have mostly used low key since a lot of people are afraid of the dark and that there is going to be danger. They have also used some high key lighting for the flashbacks, because it was showing that it was they were happy and they weren't scared of any paranormal activity. |
This is the trailer for the movie insidious. First of all for the shots they have used quite a lot of mid shots when showing the characters, this is because the audience would have a good description about them as a result. They have also used some long shots for example when it pans in the character's bedrooms and outside, this is because the audience would think that there is something lurking in the background. They have used quick shots when it shows the family doing their daily lives which gives the impression that something bad will happen next. Then it shows a mid shot of the parents looking worried and long shot of a boy on a hospital bed which makes the audience think what has happened. Next shot shows a woman walking towards another room where a diegetic sound of rocking chair is which gives an unsettling feeling that something is going to happen. |

This is the trailer for the movie Paranormal Activity. For the shots, they have used mid shots when the man is watching a video because the audience can be able to see the body language and expressions on the man's face. It also showed a video of a young girl talking about what she saw until a creepy figure popped up behind her. This showed as a long shot so the audience know it is a video and where the girl is. It also had an eerie diegetic music to make the scene even more scarier. Then it used a hand held camera when a man was opening a box and holding an old camera. The used this because it feels like you are the one holding the video camera. Then it used a long shot distance when a woman was looking down until a figure moved until i was out of camera shot. This scene is effective because not only is it dark but it gets quiet a few seconds until something pops out of nowhere and that it is using hand held camera which means you feel like you were there.

This gives the audiences ideas that the family are moving from somewhere safe and to a dangerous place. When they were at Grandma's house, they have used a handheld camera so it looks like you are there. Then it shows a long shot of the sky getting darker and the music starting to get eerie gives the impression that something bad is going to happen. When the children were going outside of their room, the lighting was quite dark which gives an unsettling feeling especially when the music started when someone was scratching the wall. Then the boy was talking about that the family is starting to act weird especially at night and shows their grandmother and and grandfather acting out of character which shows that staying there was a mistake.
