Question 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Our audience research was helpful as it enabled us to see our trailer from the perspective of our audience. It helped teach us what aspects of our trailer that were good, were done professionally and stood out for being unique. The feedback also told us about the elements of our work that the audience feel should were not done well or professionally and the feedback suggest improvements that could be made. Suggestions can range across all aspects of our content from our sound, editing, lighting and transitions; to things like our costumes, film settings and ideas. Furthermore, the audience feedback would enlighten our group on the choices and decisions we made in making our trailer. For instance, our audiences opinions would teach us how well certain elements of our trailer were perceived and their opinions would be reflective on the effectiveness of our trailer among our target audience. Finally the feedback would also help our group be able to learn how we would do our project differently if we were given the opportunity to recreate it. Through a variety of mediums such as video feedback, written surveys and posts on social networks, our group gained a number of different opinions and pieces of audience feedback for us to analyse and draw conclusions with.
Video Feedback
One of the ways in which we gathered feedback was to film members of the target audience watching our trailer. Whilst filming the individuals, the camera would pick up, all of the thoughts and reactions from the viewers. After the trailer had finished we would also ask them a few questions about what they thought of the trailer.
When each person had finished watching the trailer I asked them two questions. Firstly I asked them what the thought was good about the trailer. Becky stated that she liked the sound of the trailer and also the idea behind it. Rebecca Said that she liked the editing of the trailer and Jon said that he really liked the ending with the code coming through the background. The next question I asked was what we could improve on if we were to make the trailer again. Becky said that some of the voice overs were unemotional and so if we got the chance we should replace them with more emotional voice overs. Both Rebecca and Jon said that the sound was slightly disappointing as at some points they would have put a banging sound, for example when the hooded man hits the window. |

Facebook Feedback
Another way of gathering feedback about our trailer was through social networks like Facebook. A member of our group posted our horror trailer on Facebook and requested feedback from other users and members of our target audience. We would then review the feedback we received and draw conclusions from it. Facebook was an important tool in receiving feedback about our media product as Facebook covers a large range of audiences. The fact that Facebook also lets people write their own feedback in the comments sections makes it easy to analyse.
From this feedback we can see that many people liked our trailer with some people saying that to improve the trailer than we should have voice overs that have more emotion in them to make it more realistic. One person commented on the idea behind the story which is the dangers online. He said that he liked the message because although it is a horror movie and so in many ways unrealistic it will somewhat educate young people about the dangers. The problem with this method to find out what people thought of our trailer is that simply people on Facebook are my friends and family and therefore are biased in the since that they look past the things to improve and just say what is good about it. |
Written Feedback
The final way in which we received feedback was through written surveys. Writing questions to receive written answers from our audience was helpful because it lets us analyse their words and use quotes as evidence. It also allowed us to ask questions that would guarantee we would get the information we needed for example In our written survey we implemented questions such as "What elements of our trailer did you like?" and " Are there any improvements you'd suggest to be made?".
From this method of feedback we can see the same kind of thing that we found out using the Facebook method. It reaffirmed that many people liked our trailer but that some of the voice overs are emotionless and so should be replaced if we should do it again. This method was good because it meant that we could ask people at school. this means that they would be part of our target audience and also that they would not be biased as they would have no reason to be. |
