Insidious
The Insidious poster doesn't tell the audience what is going to happen in the movie. The boy is obviously considered as the main character as he is in the centre of the poster. The direct gaze he holds with the audience allows them to see his eyes and this tells the audience that somehow the boy is going to be possessed. The image in the background is of a normal family house. This tells the audience that this movie is set in a normal house with a normal family and therefore can be related to real life. Finally the dark cloud in the background could represent something evil. The fact that the clouds on the right are darker than the clouds on the left could represent good vs evil.
Scream 4
This poster is very simple and therefore effective. The white of the scream mask stands out from the black background thus the poster is eye catching. The mask goes into a dagger and this is very creative. This links the identity of the mask to a significant murder weapon, which is also well known. The black background could represent the fact that the killer always attacks at night. The A in scream is actually the number 4 to represent the fact that its the fourth film. However the four contrasts the white of the title as it is blood red. This attracts the viewers attention and puts an image in their head of murder and blood.
Sinister
The colours red, white and black play a key part in this poster. The red shows the blood and death which will be featured in the film, the black shows the darkness and white shows the purity and innocence of the little girl. The use of little children in horror films is actually very common in horror films like this. The poster shows what other films the producers have made, for example Paranormal Activity and Insidious. This means that the people who enjoyed those movies will be more likely to watch this movie. The quotation "Once you see him, nothing can save you" draws the audience in. The crack shown on the wall represents destruction and decay therefore shows what is to come in the film. The face is used in all types of distribution campaigns and is thus recognisable to the audience. Also It demonstrates the importance of being consistent when advertising a film. The fact that the girl is dragging the blood across the wall could represent that the girl is going to be controlled. The clothing of the girl shows this will happen at night.
Annabelle
This poster once again is very simple as it only has the doll and writing on it, the red font stands out from the black background. The doll on the front gives people an idea on what the film is about. Also the fact that the poster states that this movie is before the Conjuring means that the fan base of that movie will be interested in this movie. The blood tear on the doll represents the evilness of the doll and also the sadness that it will cause. It is also out of the ordinary as crying blood represents that something about the situation is seriously wrong and thus creating an uneasy atmosphere. The doll is not placed in the centre of the poster, this draws attention to the eye and also suggests that the doll is not the real danger, but the spirit inside said object.
