New Camera Research
Sony DSLR
As we entered the beginning of the research period, we noticed there were new pieces of technology to film with. The new camera was a Sony AS Ace and we had the job of calibrating it. Firstly we ensured the lens was set to MF (Manual Function) so that we could control the focus and brightness of our shots. Secondly we ensured that the camera was set to film mode, in order to record video and not take pictures. Next we changed the Aperture and shutter speed to fifteen, this gave us the correct contrast of light and speed, in order to capture the perfect shot. We used a dial on top of the camera, which looked similar to a ying yang symbol, changed the shutter speed. We set it to 1/30th, as we were indoors, which allowed the shot to become a little lighter and more detailed. The lowest setting the aperture should be on is 3.5, the lower the number, the lighter and more blurry the background of your shot will become. There was a small number number at the bottom of the screen which was thought to be the light exposure. This number should be 180 and could be increased if shooting outside, this number increased the amount of grain in the picture. For dark use the number should be 118.
We discovered the camera had a large amount of effects that could be activated. These effects would save us alot of time in the editing process, for example, there was an effect called Toy, which dimmed the screen a certain colour. We changed the colour to blue and it gave a very tense spooky scene, this ment that we would no have to add as many colours or effects in the editing process and thus save time. Finally if one presses the function key they can select from a numerous range of styles to film in. For example, the screen can turn black and white, sunset style and dimmed. This allows us to change the footage captured with ease. This particular camera of Sony is impressive as it is automatically stabilised which prevents burry filming when using the zoom feature, this along with its Anti Alias feature makes it a perfect utensil for our media product. |
